American actor Shia LaBeouf has received a six-month suspended prison sentence for his involvement in a fight during the Mardi Gras carnival in New Orleans on February 17. The actor pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery.

He was arrested in the early morning hours in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans. Video footage showed the actor, shirtless, pushing one man to the ground and hitting another in the face. Police reported that LaBeouf repeatedly used homophobic slurs during the incident and continued to do so during his arrest.

Court-ordered treatment for potential alcohol and drug addiction was mandated shortly after his arrest, along with weekly drug testing. LaBeouf later stated that his aggressive behavior stemmed more from "anger and ego" than from substance use. He also commented on his fear of "big, gay men," explaining in an interview with journalist Andrew Callaghan that he becomes scared if he is alone and three gay men touch his leg. He apologized, stating, "I'm sorry. If that's homophobic, then I'm homophobic."

LaBeouf's lawyer indicated that by pleading guilty to simple battery, his client had "taken responsibility for his part in what happened" and is now looking forward to focusing on his family, work, and new creative projects. The defense argued that the incident was a "minor scuffle in a bar during Mardi Gras" with no evidence of prejudice or discrimination.

Shia LaBeouf's Career and Past Incidents

The 39-year-old actor gained prominence as a child star in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens (2000-2003). He later achieved widespread fame for his leading roles in the Transformers film trilogy (2007, 2009, 2011) and the movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010).

Beyond his film roles, LaBeouf has frequently been in the news for his eccentric behavior and unconventional artistic choices. In 2014, he appeared on the red carpet at the Berlin Film Festival wearing a paper bag over his head with the slogan "I am not famous anymore." As a performance artist, he also ran 144 laps around the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 2016 while wearing a pink leotard.

Previously, a court ordered him to attend a rehabilitation clinic following a 2017 arrest in Georgia for public intoxication and disorderly conduct during the filming of Peanut Butter Falcon. In 2020, his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against him alleging physical and emotional abuse, which was settled last year.
