Dick Advocaat Ready to Make Impact with Curaçao at World Cup

Dick Advocaat is set to embark on his third World Cup as a head coach, this time with the Dutch Caribbean nation of Curaçao. As they prepare for their maiden World Cup appearance, Advocaat has made it clear that his team will not simply be making up the numbers, particularly as they face a daunting opening match against tournament favorites Germany.

No Mere Participants

Advocaat acknowledged the significant challenge ahead, stating, “Germany is the top favorite, even to win this World Cup.” However, he emphasized his team’s commitment to making things difficult for every opponent. “We are not going to a World Cup to be a participant,” Advocaat asserted during his press conference. “We want to show what we can do, and maybe after three games, there will be a surprise.”

Full Squad Available

Curaçao will enter their World Cup debut with a fully fit squad. Advocaat confirmed that all players are available for selection, a significant boost as they prepare to face formidable opposition. While acknowledging Germany’s expected dominance, Advocaat outlined his tactical approach: “Germany will be the dominant party. But we are not just going to sit back. We will try to take advantage of the chances that come our way.”

Confidence from the Captain

Curaçao captain Leandro Bacuna shares Advocaat’s optimism. He expressed strong confidence in the team’s ability to perform well in the tournament. “We didn’t get through qualification for nothing and believe in our own qualities,” Bacuna stated. “I want to make the people of Curaçao proud. We held onto a dream. The highest achievable, and that has been achieved by qualifying for the World Cup. But we are not done yet.”
