Matteo Brunori has described his recent loan spell at Sampdoria as a “very positive experience,” despite the club’s challenges. The striker, who is still under contract with Palermo, expressed his desire to compete for promotion to Serie A in the upcoming season.

Sampdoria’s Season Reflection

Brunori acknowledged that Sampdoria carried a significant burden at the start of their campaign but felt the team successfully overcame it. He also addressed his goal-scoring record during his time in Genoa, noting that while the number of goals might have been low, they were impactful, and he also contributed three assists.

“The experience at Sampdoria is very positive, the team had a weight on its shoulders, and we lifted it,” Brunori stated, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Few goals? Yes, but they were important, and I also add three assists.”

Future Ambitions and Club Loyalty

While Brunori remains contractually tied to Palermo, he indicated that his future likely lies away from the Sicilian club. He emphasized his continued affection for Palermo, stating it’s a place that will always hold a special place in his heart, irrespective of results or personal statistics. He accepted the technical decisions made in January and continues to do so now, prioritizing the best interests of Palermo.

Regarding the current transfer market, Brunori mentioned that he hasn’t received any concrete offers yet, which he considers normal given that many clubs are still finalizing their directorial and coaching staff. However, his agent has informed him that there are discussions underway, and he remains relaxed about the situation.

“There haven’t been concrete proposals, and that’s normal because many clubs are still sorting out directors and coaches, but my agent tells me there’s something, and I’m calm,” Brunori explained.

International Move and Serie A Dream

When asked about potential moves, Brunori is open to playing abroad, although he acknowledges it would represent a significant life change, especially with a young daughter. If he has the choice, he would prefer to remain in Italy. His primary objective for the upcoming season is to achieve what he couldn’t with Palermo: promotion to Serie A. He contrasts this with Sampdoria’s objective, which was to avoid relegation.

“Italy or abroad? I don’t rule anything out, although it would be an important change of life, with a small child. If I can choose, I will stay in Italy. I would like to achieve what I couldn’t with Palermo, namely Serie A. At Samp, the objective was to stay up, now I have new ones.”

Evolving Serie B Landscape

Brunori also commented on the evolving tactical approaches in Serie B, noting that the league has become more proactive in the last season. This shift has allowed many attackers to showcase their talents, citing examples such as J oel Pohjanpalo, Andrea Adorante, Frosinone wingers Ghedjemis and Kvernadze, and experienced forwards like Pietro Iemmello of Catanzaro and Massimo Coda, with whom he played at Sampdoria.
