Barcelona Futsal has secured their eighth Liga title in club history, triumphing over ElPozo Murcia in a hard-fought final. The victory marks a significant achievement for the team, capping off a season that also saw them secure qualification for the UEFA Futsal Champions League.

Following the championship win, head coach Javi Rodríguez and team captain Dídac Plana visited the Mundo Deportivo newsroom to share their joy and discuss the team’s prospects.

A Hard-Fought Victory

Dídac Plana described the atmosphere after the final match as one of “total euphoria,” emphasizing the intense nature of the game. “It was a very hard-fought match,” he stated. “And when you achieve the title, everything comes out. We celebrated as it deserves, and today we will continue with the celebration dinner. We are happy because in the end it turned out well and we achieved what we wanted.”

For coach Javi Rodríguez, the Liga title represents the first major trophy of his tenure. He was quick to credit the players for their dedication and effort. “I am very happy, very content, but I always say the same, especially for the work of the players,” Rodríguez commented. “Ultimately, coaches are there to help, not to get in the way, and to allow them to enjoy and experience it firsthand as they truly are, a team. They are the ones who will win or lose the games.”

A Season of Growth and Connection

Both Rodríguez and Plana acknowledged the long but ultimately positive season. Plana believes the team’s performance was of a “notable” standard, particularly given their progression throughout the year. “We played two finals. We won the important one. In the end, the League was what counted, qualification for the Champions League above all, which is what was demanded of us,” he explained. “Throughout the year, I think we have seen a team that has gone from less to more, improving, engaging people too because we have also seen an evolution in attendance at the Palau, the people, the day-to-day, the following.”

Rodríguez highlighted the renewed connection with the home crowd as a significant accomplishment. “Because in the end, having the Palau carry you is very important,” he said. “I had it as a player, I have it now as a coach. And I know what it is to come here with a different team than Barça and I know what it is when the Palau pushes.” He added that fan support is crucial, especially when the fine line between winning and losing is so narrow. “If these players give their all for this shirt, for this crest, the culé futsal fan will appreciate it even if they don’t win any titles.”

Overcoming Adversity and Building Confidence

Plana pointed to the team’s ability to overcome difficult moments as a key factor in their success. “First, I think that this year many players, including myself, have regained a much higher confidence. We have felt good, we have enjoyed ourselves again and from there we have built an incredible group,” he stated. He also praised Rodríguez’s philosophy of continuous effort. “Javi always transmits to us that in the end what we have to do is fight, no matter how it goes, for the next one, and the next one, and the next one. That recipe is very easy to say, but sometimes it is very difficult. But I think we have instilled it a bit into our identity, the one we want to have and the one we are building.” This mentality, he believes, was crucial in navigating the latter stages of the season and enduring setbacks.

Ambitions for Europe

With the Liga title secured, the team’s focus now shifts to the UEFA Futsal Champions League. “First, we are eager to return to Europe. That was the main thing,” said Rodríguez. “Now we know that Europe is very complicated, but we also know the potential that the team has, with the desire and the enthusiasm. This team has a lot of hunger. These players have a lot of desire.” Plana added that the experience of watching the Champions League from afar for two years fuels their motivation. “Only for that pride will we achieve good things, for sure.”

A Promising Future

Looking ahead, both coach and captain expressed optimism for Barcelona Futsal’s future. “I hope it will be an even better Barça, if possible,” Rodríguez stated. “As I told you before, this team has a lot of hunger, a lot of desire, a lot of enthusiasm to keep improving and keep winning.” Plana echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for continued growth. “I think we have to continue growing as a team. I think everyone is very aware that we have climbed the first step, which is very important, but now the challenge is much greater with the Champions League and the difficulty it entails.”
