Chelsea are reportedly contemplating a swift exit for their new signing Emmanuel Emegha, with the Dutch international potentially leaving the club before he has played a single official minute. The 23-year-old attacker only officially joined the west London side from Strasbourg earlier this month, following a pre-agreement struck last September.

Emegha participated in his first pre-season training session with the squad at the Cobham training centre last week. However, his long-term future at Stamford Bridge appears uncertain, according to reports.

Attacking Options Under Review

The Athletic journalist Simon Johnson has reported that Chelsea have not yet finalized their decision on which attacking player to move on this summer. Alongside Emegha, Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap are also understood to be under consideration for a potential departure. The club anticipates one player from this group will be sold.

Nicolas Jackson has returned to first-team training after a loan spell with Bayern Munich last season, positioning him as the most likely to remain at the club. This leaves Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha as the most vulnerable to a sale.

Delap, who arrived from relegated Ipswich Town for a reported £30 million, endured a disappointing debut campaign, scoring just one Premier League goal in 28 starts. With Joao Felix considered the undisputed first-choice striker, any further additions in attack would significantly limit opportunities for other forwards, creating complications for Emegha’s place in the squad.

Injury Concerns for Emegha

Emegha’s previous season at Strasbourg was significantly hampered by injuries. He managed only 10 appearances in total, suffering a thigh injury in December that kept him out for two months, followed by a recurrence of the problem upon his return to training. He also missed the end of the campaign due to a muscular issue, which prevented him from participating in Strasbourg’s Conference League semi-final defeat.

During Strasbourg’s run to the semi-finals, Emegha contributed four goals in seven appearances. His injury record is also believed to have cost him a place in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Former Strasbourg and Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior had previously handed Emegha a one-match ban in December for comments made to the media. However, Rosenior had also praised the young forward before his own departure from the club in January, highlighting his energy, constant running, and pressing as significant assets.

Fans will be keen to see how this situation develops and what it signifies for the team’s attacking strategy moving forward.
