Sebastián Villa Bids Farewell to Independiente Rivadavia Ahead of Boca Juniors Return

Colombian forward Sebastián Villa has officially bid farewell to Independiente Rivadavia, the club that provided him with a crucial platform to reignite his career. His departure comes as he prepares to begin his second spell with Argentine giants Boca Juniors.

Villa, who joined the Mendoza-based club in early 2024, expressed his gratitude through an emotional video posted on his Instagram account. The video featured highlights from his time with Independiente Rivadavia, accompanied by a heartfelt message to the club’s supporters, teammates, coaching staff, and management.

“There are goodbyes that are difficult because behind every game there was dedication, sacrifice, and moments that last forever,” Villa stated in his message. “Today, I have to close a chapter that helped me grow not only as a footballer but also as a person.”

He extended his thanks to “every teammate, coaching staff, directors, club employees, and especially the fans who were there for every game, every trip, and every moment, making their unconditional support felt.”

Villa emphasized the lasting impact of his time with Independiente Rivadavia, noting that he is taking away “learnings, friendships, and memories that I will keep for a lifetime. Football continues, paths change, but there are jerseys and people that leave a mark forever.”

Key facts

A Resurgent Career

Villa’s move to Independiente Rivadavia marked a significant step in his career following a challenging period after his departure from Boca Juniors and a prior stint in Bulgaria. At Independiente Rivadavia, he found consistent playing time, rediscovered his top form, and re-established himself as one of Argentine football’s prominent figures.

During his tenure with “La Lepra Mendocina,” Villa played 76 matches and scored 11 goals. He was instrumental in the club’s historic Copa Argentina triumph and was considered the team’s most decisive player in the Copa Libertadores this year, where he stood out as one of the tournament’s most notable performers.

Second Stint at Boca Juniors

With his departure from Independiente Rivadavia now official and Boca Juniors having announced his signing, Villa is shifting his focus to his return to the blue and gold. He will begin his second cycle with Boca Juniors this Saturday, aiming to contribute to the team under the guidance of manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena and re-don the iconic Boca jersey.

Boca Juniors officially confirmed the signings of Sebastián Villa and Álvaro Montero earlier this week, signaling their intent to strengthen the squad for upcoming competitions. Villa’s arrival is expected to add depth and quality to Boca’s attacking options.

The move signifies a new chapter for Villa, who seeks to build on his recent successes and make a significant impact in his return to one of South America’s most prestigious clubs.
