Argentinians Lead Global Ticket Sales for World Cup 2026, Outpacing Organizers
A FIFA ticketing partner reveals that Argentinian fans have purchased the most World Cup 2026 tickets outside of the host nations, highlighting the team's global appeal and the dynamics of the North American ticketing market.

As the FIFA World Cup 2026 progresses through its group stages, with packed stadiums and frequent scoring, data from the ticketing front reveals a significant trend: Argentinian fans are leading the charge in ticket purchases, second only to supporters from the host nations. This surge in demand underscores the enduring global passion for Argentine football and the unique market forces at play in North America.
Carlos Abriata, an Argentine businessman based in Miami and a partner at Secutix, the company behind FIFA’s ticketing technology, shared insights into the sales figures with local publication Olé. He noted that for Argentina’s matches, approximately 20% of attendees were fans who traveled directly from Argentina, while 45% were Argentinians residing in the United States. The remaining attendees comprised supporters of other nationalities cheering for La Albiceleste.
Market Dynamics and Secondary Sales
Abriata explained that ticket prices for the tournament are largely dictated by the North American market, where secondary ticket sales are permissible. This allows ticket holders to resell their digital tickets through official channels like FIFA’s Marketplace or privately, provided the transfers are tracked within the official system. “If one sells a ticket to another person, inevitably they have to transfer it through the official system,” Abriata clarified.

FIFA’s Ticketing Revenue and Match Demand
FIFA has already quadrupled its ticketing revenue compared to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This increase is partly attributed to the expanded format of the 2026 tournament, which features 48 teams and 50 more matches than its predecessor.
Despite the final match not yet being determined, two specific group stage games have emerged as the most in-demand fixtures: M7, featuring Colombia vs. Portugal in Miami, and M86, pitting the first-place team from Group J against the second-place team from Group H, also scheduled for Miami. The latter fixture has the potential to involve teams with significant global followings.
Global Fan Presence
With over a million spectators having attended matches so far and an average of more than 60,000 attendees per game, the ticket sales data reinforces what is visible in the stands: the passion of Argentinian fans remains a powerful force in global football. Their significant presence highlights the tournament’s reach and the widespread appeal of the sport.
