Chelsea have reportedly concluded negotiations with Everton for the permanent transfer of winger Tyrique George, with a deal worth £24 million agreed. The sale marks another departure from Stamford Bridge as the club looks to streamline its squad under new management.

The young attacker spent the latter half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Everton, but his impact was limited. George made 11 Premier League appearances, totalling just 210 minutes, and failed to register a single goal or assist for David Moyes’s side.

Renegotiated Terms

Despite George’s underwhelming loan spell, Everton have managed to secure his services on a permanent basis. According to BBC Sport, the initial loan agreement included a £25 million option to buy, but the clubs have successfully renegotiated the terms. The new deal is understood to involve an £18 million upfront payment, with an additional £6 million to be paid in add-ons, contingent on appearances and potential European qualification for Everton.

A significant aspect of the agreement is the inclusion of a 15% sell-on clause for Chelsea. This ensures that the Blues will receive a percentage of any future transfer fee should Everton decide to sell George on.

George’s Chelsea Career

The transfer brings an end to Tyrique George’s 12-year association with Chelsea, having joined the club’s academy as an Under-8 player in 2014. He progressed through the renowned Cobham youth system, ultimately making 37 senior appearances for the first team. During his time at Stamford Bridge, George contributed six goals and six assists, and was part of the squads that won the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025.

Previous Transfer Speculation

George’s departure follows a period of transfer speculation. Last summer, a proposed £22 million move to Fulham collapsed on deadline day. Discussions were also held with German club RB Leipzig a year ago, indicating prior interest from other European sides.

George becomes the second Chelsea player to be sold this summer transfer window, following the surprise £47 million switch of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.

Squad Overhaul Expected

The sale of George is seen as part of a broader squad overhaul at Chelsea under new manager Xabi Alonso. Reports suggest that further departures are expected from what is described as a “bloated squad.” Uncertainty also continues to surround the future of midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with Real Madrid reportedly denying interest. However, Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca is rumoured to be keen on reuniting with the Argentine, for whom Chelsea are expected to demand in excess of £100 million.

Other players reportedly on the chopping block include fellow midfielder Andrey Santos, while Cesc Fabregas’s Como have shown interest in defender Trevoh Chalobah. Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, David Datro Fofana, and Nicolas Jackson are also understood to be available for transfer at the right price.
