Coventry City, recently promoted to the Premier League, are reportedly among the clubs showing interest in Juventus forward Lois Openda. The Belgian striker has struggled for form and game time in Serie A, leading Juventus to consider a loan move for the 26-year-old.

Striker’s Juventus Struggles

Lois Openda joined Juventus on an initial loan from RB Leipzig last summer, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent. However, his tenure with the Italian club has been disappointing, marked by only one goal in 24 Serie A appearances. His limited playing time, particularly in the latter stages of the season, saw him miss out on a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad.

Juventus are reportedly open to letting Openda leave on loan, acknowledging the difficulty in securing a permanent transfer this summer. There is a possibility that the Serie A side could negotiate a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy. Coventry City, preparing for their first Premier League campaign since the 2000-01 season, are seeking attacking reinforcements and see Openda as a potential addition to compete with Haji Wright and Ellis Simms.

Competition for Openda

The Sky Blues are not alone in their pursuit of the striker. French clubs Lyon, Rennes, and Openda’s former club Lens are also believed to be interested in his signature.

Everton Target Eyes Premier League Switch

In other transfer news, Everton target Karl Etta Eyong has reportedly made a move to the Premier League his primary objective. The Cameroonian international impressed in his debut season with Levante, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 31 appearances. His performances have attracted the attention of Premier League club Everton, with newly-promoted Ipswich Town also linked with the striker.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Etta Eyong is prioritizing a Premier League transfer over other potential destinations. His release clause has reportedly been reduced to €20 million (£17.1 million) after Levante agreed to amend his contract, which is set to run until the summer of 2029.

Kayode Signs New Brentford Deal

Meanwhile, Brentford defender Michael Kayode has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract. Kayode was a standout performer for Brentford last season, making 37 Premier League appearances and earning a nomination for the Young Player of the Season award. The new deal will keep him at the club until the summer of 2032, with an option for a further year.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised Kayode’s season, stating, “Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive.” Andrews added, “Michael’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach. We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.” The extension of Kayode’s contract is seen as a significant boost for Brentford, solidifying their first-choice right-back position.
