Fiorentina is reportedly close to finalizing the appointment of Fabio Grosso as their new head coach. While an agreement between Grosso and the Viola is understood to be in place, the definitive green light hinges on Sassuolo’s resolution of their own managerial succession.

The final confirmation is expected to arrive soon, with many anticipating the official announcement by Friday. Grosso has already informed Sassuolo of his desire to move to Florence, signaling a strong commitment to the Tuscan club.

What Remains

The primary obstacle to Grosso’s immediate unveiling lies with Sassuolo. Before parting ways with the coach who secured their promotion to Serie B and guided them to a respectable 11th-place finish in Serie A, the club needs to secure a successor.

Alberto Aquilani is considered the frontrunner to take the reins at Sassuolo. After an impressive season leading Catanzaro to the brink of playoff victory, Aquilani appears ready for a step up to Serie A. Once Sassuolo finalizes their agreement with Aquilani, Grosso, along with his coaching staff, will be free to join Fiorentina at the Viola Park.

Vanoli’s Situation

Meanwhile, Vincenzo Italiano’s contractual situation with Fiorentina is also a factor. Fiorentina held an option for an automatic contract renewal, which expired on May 30th. The club has requested additional time before releasing him, indicating a strategic approach to managing their coaching transition. The unfolding events surrounding Vanoli’s future are intertwined with the final stages of this managerial saga, which appears heavily leaning towards Grosso’s arrival.

Future Prospects

Grosso awaits clarity on his next steps, but the prevailing sentiment suggests his path leads to Fiorentina. Sassuolo’s task of appointing their next bench boss is crucial to unblocking Grosso’s move. If no unforeseen issues arise in the coming days, all the pieces of this managerial puzzle are expected to fall into place. This will allow Fiorentina to begin planning for the upcoming season under their new leadership.

The development is significant for Fiorentina supporters as it signals a new era under a coach with a proven track record, including a World Cup triumph as a player and a Serie B title as a manager. The club will be looking to build on recent successes and challenge for higher honors in Serie A and European competitions.
