The 22nd edition of the MICFootball7 tournament has officially kicked off on Spain’s scenic Costa Daurada. Running from Saturday, June 13, to Sunday, June 14, the event has drawn an impressive 136 teams, comprising over 1,200 players from various youth categories.

Global Participation

This year’s MICFootball7 is notable for its extensive international reach, with participants hailing from 18 different countries. The tournament brings together talent from across Europe, including Catalonia, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, as well as from continents further afield, such as the United States, Thailand, and Laos. This diverse representation underscores the tournament’s growing global appeal and its role in fostering international sporting connections among young athletes.

Key Competitors

As in previous years, traditional powerhouses like FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid are expected to be among the strong contenders. They will face stiff competition from other prominent Spanish clubs, including Real Sociedad, Valencia, and Rayo Vallecano. The presence of these well-established youth academies highlights the high level of play expected throughout the competition.

Tournament Venues and Scale

The matches will be played across multiple venues on the Costa Daurada, with Riudoms, Cambrils, and Reus serving as host cities this year, expanding the tournament’s footprint. Over 300 games are scheduled to take place across five different categories, offering significant playing time for all participating teams.

A Stepping Stone for Young Talent

Maite Colomer, director of MICSports, emphasized the tournament’s significance for young players. “In recent years, we have consolidated MICFootball7 as a first professional experience for the youngest ones,” Colomer stated. “It’s a weekend to enjoy and develop, but they experience it in an environment just like professional players, staying in hotels and receiving very close attention.” This approach aims to provide young athletes with a taste of professional football while prioritizing their enjoyment and development.

The MICFootball7 serves as a crucial platform for pre-benjamín, benjamín, and alevín category players, offering them a unique opportunity to compete on a significant stage, experience different playing styles, and build camaraderie with peers from around the world. The tournament’s organization, including accommodation and professional treatment, aims to replicate aspects of a professional football experience, preparing these budding stars for future challenges.
