MICFootfem Tournament Expands with International Teams in Third Edition

The third edition of the MICFootfem tournament is underway, showcasing significant growth with 82 participating teams and the inclusion of international sides. This year marks a milestone with the presence of teams from outside Catalonia, including CFF Madrid and the Català FC Academy from the United States.

The tournament, scheduled to take place on June 13th and 14th, will feature FC Barcelona as a high-profile participant. Over 1,000 participants are expected to compete across various venues in Osona, specifically Vic, Tona, Gurb, and Manlleu.

Tournament Structure

The competition is divided into five categories, catering to different age groups and formats. These include Football 7 for U10, U12, and U14 teams, and Football 11 for U16 and U19 squads. The tournament will kick off with group stage matches on Saturday.

Growth and Impact

Maite Colomer, director of MICSport, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s rapid development. “We are very satisfied with the growth we are experiencing as a tournament. In just two years, we have almost tripled the number of teams, with all that entails in terms of organization and impact for the territory,” she stated.

This year’s expansion beyond Catalonia is a key development. “It will be the first year with teams from outside Catalonia, and we will play on 11 football fields, adding Vic and Manlleu as venues. We want the region to breathe women’s football,” Colomer added.

The MICFootfem tournament aims to foster the development of women’s football at the youth level, providing a platform for young players to compete and gain experience. The increased participation and international presence highlight the growing appeal and significance of the event.
