Sassuolo Gears Up for Post-Carnevali Era with Mapei Figure and Palmieri Retained

Sassuolo is undergoing a significant leadership overhaul as the club looks to replace its long-serving CEO, Giovanni Carnevali. According to reports, a new managerial figure is expected to join from Mapei, the club’s primary sponsor, to fill the CEO role. Francesco Palmieri is set to retain his position as sporting director, ensuring continuity in the club’s technical management amidst the executive transition.

The impending changes signal a new direction for the Serie A club, which has seen considerable success and shrewd player trading under Carnevali’s tenure. The new CEO will reportedly act as a key intermediary between the club’s operations and the Squinzi family, the children of the late former president Giorgio Squinzi, mirroring Carnevali’s established role.

Carnevali’s legacy at Sassuolo is marked by a series of astute transfer dealings that have seen the club unearth and develop significant talent, often turning modest investments into substantial profits. Sky Sport’s analysis, as reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, highlights a “top 10” of Carnevali’s most impactful signings, underscoring his contribution to the club’s sporting and financial growth.

Key signings that defined Carnevali’s era include Manuel Locatelli, who arrived from AC Milan for a modest fee and later represented Italy on the international stage before a lucrative move to Juventus. Gianluca Scamacca also represents a prime example of player trading success, joining from PSV and developing into a potent striker before his record-breaking transfer to West Ham.

Davide Frattesi, acquired from Roma, and Matteo Politano, also initially joining from Roma, are further testament to Sassuolo’s ability to identify and nurture talent. Both players went on to achieve national team recognition and secure significant moves to top Italian clubs.

The defensive ranks also saw impactful acquisitions, with Francesco Acerbi’s career resurgence at Sassuolo leading to a call-up to the national team and a subsequent transfer to Lazio. Merih Demiral, a quick and profitable player trading success, was acquired for a relatively low fee from Alanyaspor and swiftly sold to Juventus for a considerable profit after limited appearances.

Beyond player sales, Carnevali’s tenure also saw the consistent performance of key players who became club stalwarts. Andrea Consigli, the long-serving goalkeeper, provided a decade of reliable service, becoming a symbol of the club’s stability. Domenico Berardi, a product of the club’s own academy, has been a consistent attacking threat and a symbol of Sassuolo’s identity, despite not being a traditional transfer acquisition.

The transition away from Carnevali’s leadership presents both challenges and opportunities for Sassuolo. The club’s ability to adapt and maintain its competitive edge in Serie A will depend on the effectiveness of its new leadership structure. The continued presence of Palmieri as sporting director offers a degree of stability, but the appointment of a new CEO with potential ties to Mapei suggests a strategic alignment with the club’s key stakeholders.
