The “El Potrero” girls’ football academy in Argentina has shared a message of recovery and gratitude after a minibus carrying its young players was involved in a serious collision in Córdoba province. The accident occurred on Provincial Route 4, resulting in a head-on collision with a car.

All the girls, aged between 9 and 12, who were traveling in the minibus have since been discharged from hospital and reunited with their families. The academy expressed profound relief and thanked the community for its overwhelming support during the difficult time.

Por que importa

“Today we want to share with great emotion that, thanks to God, all our girls have already been discharged and are back with their families,” the club stated in a message posted on Instagram.

The academy acknowledged the emotional toll of the accident and highlighted the strength they found in the outpouring of support from families, neighbors, and the wider community. “We want to thank with all our hearts every person who was attentive to us, who put us in their prayers, sent a message, called or accompanied us in one way or another. Feeling so much love and support was an enormous strength in such a difficult moment.”

Contexto

The statement emphasized that a period of rest and recovery is now underway for the young players and their families. “It is time to rest, recover, and hug our girls a lot. With patience, love, and accompaniment, everything will heal little by little,” the academy added.

This was not the first communication from the academy following the incident. Shortly after the crash, while the girls were still under observation at the hospital in La Carlota, the club had sought to reassure families by reporting that the entire squad was out of danger. “Fortunately, God was by our side,” they had written at that time.

The accident took place on Thursday afternoon on Provincial Route 4, near a section known as the “curva de la Herrería” (Herrería curve), located between the towns of La Carlota and Huanchilla. The minibus was transporting the team, comprised of girls from Laboulaye and Serrano, who were returning from a match in Río Cuarto.

For reasons still under investigation by authorities, the minibus collided head-on with a Fiat Siena. Tragically, two occupants of the car, identified as Aldo Nicolás Sánchez (41) and Agostina Abigaíl Olmo (20), died as a result of the impact. Another woman traveling in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries.

The young players from the girls’ football team were taken to the hospital in La Carlota suffering from various traumas, cuts, and bruises, largely caused by shattered glass. Fortunately, none of the girls sustained life-threatening injuries.

This incident underscores the risks associated with road travel, even for sporting events, and highlights the resilience of young athletes and the importance of community support in overcoming adversity. The focus now shifts to the emotional and physical recovery of the children involved.
