Inter President Beppe Marotta has reiterated the club's philosophy of "evolution, not revolution" in their squad development strategy. This statement comes as the Nerazzurri celebrate a double-winning season, adding the Coppa Italia to their Scudetto title after a 2-0 victory over Lazio. The club's leadership is focused on building upon existing foundations, a model they attribute to their recent successes.

The Coppa Italia triumph marks Inter's 10th win in the competition, making them the second-most successful club in its history, behind Juventus. This achievement also represents their first domestic Double since the historic Treble season under Jose Mourinho in 2010. The current season's success, particularly after finishing the previous campaign empty-handed and undergoing a coaching change, was largely unanticipated by many observers.

From Empty-Handed to Double Winners

Last season saw Inter conclude without silverware and the departure of then-coach Simone Inzaghi. The appointment of Cristian Chivu, who had limited senior management experience in Serie A, raised questions. However, Marotta credits Chivu and the entire club structure for the turnaround. "There is a team on the field and one off it too, made up of the management and all those who work behind the scenes for the club," Marotta told Sport Mediaset, acknowledging the collective effort behind the success. He emphasized that the positive results stem from the club's top-down approach, starting with the owners.

Champions League Regrets and Future Focus

Despite the domestic success, Marotta noted a "small regret" regarding their Champions League campaign, which saw them eliminated in the play-offs by Bodo/Glimt in February. This early exit, however, allowed Inter to concentrate fully on their Serie A ambitions, ultimately leading to the league title. Looking ahead, Inter is reportedly eyeing several transfers, but Marotta confirmed that the core strategy remains consistent: incremental improvement rather than wholesale changes.

Integrating Youth with Experience

Marotta articulated a clear vision for the squad's future, emphasizing the integration of young talent with seasoned professionals. "We believe in evolution and not revolution, so young players like Petar Sucic require time to get settled and develop," he explained. The club plans to continue identifying and nurturing promising young players, pairing them with experienced figures who already possess a winning mentality. This approach aims to ensure sustained success without disrupting the team's balance.

Contractial Expiries and Gradual Replacements

The Inter President acknowledged the natural cycle of player contracts, noting that some key figures are nearing the end of their agreements. Players such as Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yann Sommer, and Matteo Darmian are among those whose contracts are expiring. Marotta described this as a "physiological issue" that cannot be fought. He confirmed that the club is prepared to "gradually introduce young players" as these departures occur, reinforcing the commitment to a measured, evolutionary transition rather than a drastic overhaul. This strategy is crucial for maintaining stability and competitive edge in both Serie A and European competitions.
