Los Pumas Unveil New Kit with Renewed VISA Sponsorship

The Argentine national rugby union team, Los Pumas, has officially unveiled its new playing kits for the 2026 season, a launch that also signifies the return of VISA as the team’s main sponsor. The renewal of this long-standing partnership comes after a period where the team’s kits appeared without the prominent VISA logo, sparking significant attention.

The new apparel, once again produced by Le Coq Sportif, features a design concept deeply rooted in Argentine national identity, inspired by the “Sol de Mayo” (Sun of May). This emblem is central to both the home and alternate jerseys, symbolizing the balance between reason and passion, order and energy, mirroring the collective spirit of a rugby team.

Return of a Key Sponsor

For three decades, VISA has been the principal sponsor of the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR). Its absence from the initial presentation of the kits for Los Pumas 7’s, the U20 side, and Las Yaguareteses was notable. This led to speculation about the future of the partnership.

The hiatus was reportedly due to several factors. The absence of the Rugby Championship for Los Pumas in 2026 was expected to reduce the sponsor’s exposure. Furthermore, a significant internal change at VISA, where the international structure absorbed VISA Prisma Argentina, meant new representatives and revised terms for the sponsorship agreement. Despite the brand remaining the same, the negotiation process with new stakeholders was necessary. Following constructive discussions, an agreement was reached, ensuring VISA’s continued prominent presence.

A Symbol of National Pride

The design of the new jerseys is a significant departure, incorporating a strong nationalistic theme. The Sol de Mayo, a historical symbol of Argentina, is intricately woven into the fabric of both the primary and secondary kits. The home jersey retains the classic sky-blue and white horizontal stripes, complemented by a white V-neck and details referencing the national flag. The sun’s rays are printed on the sleeves and chest, with added silicone points designed to improve ball grip during play. The ensemble is completed with white shorts and striped socks.

The alternate jersey adopts a darker hue, inspired by a cloudy sky illuminated by sunlight. Here, the sun’s rays are featured on one side, with the team crest and other details rendered in gold, offering a more modern and elegant aesthetic.

Upcoming Fixtures

Los Pumas are set to debut their new kits in a series of international matches. Their first appearance will be on Saturday, July 4th, against Scotland at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba, as part of the new Nations Championship tournament. The following week, on July 11th, they will host Wales at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario. The series concludes on July 18th when Los Pumas face England at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero.

The new collection of fan jerseys (non-player fit) is available for purchase from Monday, May 25th, in sports stores, specialized rugby shops, and online platforms across Argentina, priced at 119,900 pesos.
